Hackenberg enters his third, and possibly final, season at Penn State as the Nittany Lions' quarterback. If they can give him the support he needs to blossom, he could become one of the best quarterbacks in college football and accelerate the restoration of Penn State football. If not, it could be another season-long lesson in how to deal with adversity for the former five-star recruit. (AP Photo/Keith Srakocic, File)

BALTIMORE, Md. (WHTM) – He only completed 13 passes, but Christian Hackenberg made each one count in Saturday’s 31-30 win over Maryland at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. His 315 yard day elevated Hackenberg to first all time in team history for passing yards and completions.

“It’s awesome. For me, I don’t think that’s something that’s going to hit me until later down the road. It was really cool to be able to get out there and get it done today.”

Nearly every completion for Hackenberg was a deep connection, averaging 24 yards on each catch. The vertical threat less important than getting back in rhythm with his fleet of wide receivers.

“Again, i think they came out and did a great job. They fought, they brawled, they did what they needed to to make sure they got the job done. For our team, that’s all they can ask for.”

Penn State will return to State College Saturday to host Illinois.
