Remains of missing Greencastle Army Corporal identified

WASHINGTON (WHTM) – The Department of Defense says it has identified the remains of U.S. Army Cpl. Robert E. Meyers.

The DOD’s POW/MIA Accounting Agency says Meyers, of Greencastle, was declared missing in action December 1, 1950 when his unit began combat operations near Sonchu, North Korea.

Meyers was considered dead on March 2, 1954.

The DOD says scientists used circumstantial evidence, dental analysis, and chest radiographs to identify Meyers.

He will be returned to his family and buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery Monday.
