HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A bill to name a Route 15 bridge for a U.S. Marine from Mechanicsburg has passed the state House of Representatives.
House Bill 1317 would designate the bridge over Route 114 in Upper Allen Township as the “Corporal Jonathan Dean Faircloth Memorial Bridge.”
Faircloth died in a helicopter crash during a training exercise off the coast of Hawaii in March 2011.
“Jonathan was a very special young man who served his country and his community with honor and distinction,” the bill’s sponsor, Rep. Sheryl Delozier (R-Cumberland) said in a statement. “It is only fitting a portion of Route 15 bear his name, so that people in the community are reminded of his service and sacrifice each time they pass through this area.”
A 2006 graduate of Mechanicsburg Area High School, Faircloth joined the U.S. Marine Corps after high school and served tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan during his five-year military career.
The bill is awaiting the approval of the state Senate and the signature of Governor Tom Wolf.
