Tom Smith, who ran for US Senate, passed away at 67 years old

HARRISBURG – The Associated Press shared that Tom Smith, a conservative activist who ran unsuccessfully against Senator Bob Casey, had passed away.

They said that Smith had been ill before he died at his home in Elderton, Pennsylvania.

Visitation is at the family complex Monday and Tuesday, and the funeral will be held Wednesday at Mount Union Lutheran Church in Elderton.

Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Rob Gleason released the following statement regarding the passing of former United States Senate candidate Tom Smith.

“We knew Tom Smith as a candidate, supporter and committed citizen who deeply believed in the promise of the Commonwealth and our country. He was a success as a farmer, a businessman, and, most importantly, as a husband, father and grandfather to a wonderful family. Tom Smith lived his life to the fullest.

“On behalf of the Republican Party of Pennsylvania, I extend my heartfelt sympathies to his wife, Saundy, and all of his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.”
