Officer fearing attack fatally shoots dog in Lebanon

LEBANON, Pa. (WHTM) – Police in Lebanon say a dog was shot and killed out of fear the animal was going to attack an officer.

Thursday, police were called to the 1200 block of Willow St. for a report of a St. Bernard running loose and chasing residents in the area.

Police spoke to one of those residents who said he had to run inside his home to avoid the dog attacking him.

When police located the dog, officers tried to secure the dog inside a neighbor’s yard. That’s when police say the dog charged an officer and forced him to shoot.

Police say the owner of the dog has been identified and investigation is ongoing.
