Man pleads guilty to stealing $56K from dead brother’s estate

David Pfautz (Dauphin County District Attorney's Office)

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A Mount Joy man has admitted in court that he stole more than $56,000 from his dead brother’s estate.

David Pfautz, 57, pleaded guilty to theft in Dauphin County Court this week. As part of his guilty plea, Pfautz made a restitution payment of $56, 276.99, the amount he stole from his brother’s estate for his own personal gain, according to the district attorney’s office.

Prosecutors said the day after Pfautz’s brother died unexpectedly in January 2013, Pfautz had his brother’s widow sign a power of attorney for the estate, which included her children’s trust funds.

Pfautz then used the funds to pay off his debts and to buy items for himself, including stereo equipment for his vehicle and boat.
