Lower Dauphin teen fatally struck on Route 322

HUMMELSTOWN, Pa. (WHTM) – A pedestrian fatally struck Monday night on Route 322 in Derry Township was an eighth-grade student at Lower Dauphin Middle School, ABC 27 News has learned.

The 13-year-old girl was struck in the area of the Quarry Road overpass around 9 p.m.

Township police said the victim died at the scene and apparently was struck by more than one vehicle. Her name has not been released.

A statement on the Lower Dauphin School District website says the loss “will undoubtedly raise many questions, concerns and feelings among our entire school community, particularly among our students.”

A crisis intervention team will be available to talk with students at the school for several days.

The district urged parents to talk with their children about their feelings and be alert for signs that may indicate the need for special attention.
