2 Lykens men burglarized churches to fund drug habits, police say

LYKENS, Pa. (WHTM) – Two Dauphin County men are accused of burglarizing churches to fund their drug addictions.

Dakota S. Boyer, 22, and George E. Jones, 28, both of Lykens, forced their way into three churches during overnight hours in the week of Sept. 6, state police said in a news release Tuesday.

The pair damaged property and stole cash from safes and lock boxes at Lykens United Methodist Church and at the Wesley United Methodist and Calvary United Methodist churches in Wiconisco Township.

Boyer was already jailed in Dauphin County Prison on unrelated armed robbery charges. Jones was arrested at his home Monday after a brief foot chase. He was placed in the county prison on $10,000 bail.

Investigators believe both men are involved in additional burglaries in the Lykens area. Anyone with information is asked to call the Lykens barracks at 717-362-8700.
