COLUMBIA, Pa. (WHTM) – Too hot to handle. Too pretty to pass up. Glass blowing is a fascinating craft and Through the Glass Studios in Columbia shows you how you can create your own fragile work of art.
The name says it all, and a 2,025-degree furnace fuels creativity. This furnace holds the glass, 250 pounds of molten glass, and runs 24 hours a day seven days a week.
A striking site, Ben Ahlgrim owns Through the Fire Studios in Columbia. “We have a gallery, there are studio spaces for artists to rent”, he said.
Ahlgrim has been blowing glass for about 11 years. Visitors can see all the captivating art lining the walls of the studio complementing Ben and his apprentices.
They showcase their glass formations for everyone to see from counter to ceiling.
The studio gives you the ability to be a glass blower as well during an hour and a half session. They have many different things you can create; such as a flower, a paperweight, an ornament or a bowl.
