Police investigating fatal pedestrian crash on Oregon Pike

LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – A Manheim Township man died at a hospital Sunday night after he was struck while crossing Oregon Pike.

Lancaster County coroner Dr. Stephen Diamantoni identified the man as 75-year-old James Ruth.

Township police said he was struck just after 8 p.m. at the intersection with Olde Hickory Road. He was transported by ambulance to Lancaster General Hospital and pronounced dead.

The driver, a Leola woman, was northbound on Oregon Pike when the crash occurred. Oregon Pike is known as Route 272.

LNP reports Ruth was an entertainment editor for The Sunday News before he retired in 2006 after 40 years in the newspaper business.

Police said their investigation is ongoing. They are asking any witnesses to call the Manheim Township Police Department at 717-569-6401.
