Government shut down could impact food stamps

The 46 million Americans who receive food stamps could be at risk of losing the money next month if there is a government shutdown.

The Agriculture Department says it will stop providing the benefits within the first several days of October if Congress does not act.

Congressional republicans want to pass a temporary funding bill to keep the government running, but it has been hard to get support for the bill because of a battle over funding for Planned Parenthood.
