Steelton codes officer resigns after two months

STEELTON, Pa. (WHTM) – People who live in Steelton are still worked up about the now former Borough Manager Sara Gellatly.

Our stories uncovered she was signing off on building permits, even though she’s not a codes officer.

After those stories and a state investigation, Steelton Council hired an actual codes officer, Willis Shrouder.

He lasted two months, resigning Monday.

His letter of resignation didn’t say why, but he’s done on Wednesday.

Council says it’s hired an outside firm to take care of building permits in the meantime.

As for the person who was signing off on codes without certification, people who live in Steelton want to know why they’re still paying her salary and benefits.

“It seems she has made a lot of money for not keeping up her end of the bargain,” one citizen said.

Council said the severance package was a recommendation from the borough solicitor.

“If you terminate her and we go to court it’s going to cost us, it could be a two, three-year process,” said Michael Albert, Steelton Council Member

Not all council members were on the same page.

“What I didn’t understand is what would she be suing us for? What would she be suing us for? If anything, we should be suing her,” said Denae House, Steelton Council Member
