LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – An Ephrata Township man will spend up to 20 years in prison for setting fire to his family’s home last year.

Joshua A. Witman, 34, was ordered to serve 5-20 years in state prison Monday for burning down the home at 209 East Mohler Church Road on June 15, 2014, according to the Lancaster County district attorney’s office.

He also was ordered to pay $91,000 in restitution for the cost of rebuilding the home.

Witman lived in the home with his mother. He told Ephrata police there were “aliens” living in the walls and a “portal” for demons in the basement, where he set fire to a box of wood.

Authorities said he has a history of heroin abuse and a criminal record that dates to 1999.
