NORTH MIDDLETON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM) – Crews found the body of the missing man from Dickinson College, Cumberland County Coroner said.
His name is not being released at this time.
Previously reported: A recovery mission is underway at the Conodoguinet Creek, said North Middleton Township Police Chief Doug Reitz.
Police said they received a call around 3 p.m. Saturday that someone went missing.
The man was with a group that was attempting to swim to an island about 150 feet from the bank. His friends and a couple of kayakers tried to rescue him but were unsuccessful.
“The problem is you can see what’s on top, but you can’t see underneath that water,” North Middle Township Police Chief Doug Reitz said.
Police said the creek is 30 feet in some places.
The victim is an 18-year-old, first-year student at Dickinson College in Carlisle. He had just learned how to swim.
Police said he’s originally from Bhutan but came to the Midstate from New York.
Representatives from Dickinson College brought emergency crews food and water while they search. This is the second day crews were called out to the creek. They have been out since 8 a.m. and will stop at dark if they do not find anything.
This is the same area where a woman was rescued from the creek a few days ago.
