HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Attorney General Kathleen Kane’s lawyers say continued leaks of confidential information are threatening her rights to elected office and a fair trial.
Attorneys Gerald Shargel and Ross Kramer issued a statement Friday following a new search of Kane’s office.
They said the search warrant served at Kane’s office Thursday supposedly was sealed, yet some reporters already knew what was in it the warrant and what was in the seized documents.
Her lawyers say a confidential document for a disciplinary proceeding also was leaked to the press.
They’re calling on the courts to begin a full inquiry immediately.
Detectives from Montgomery County showed up at Kane’s office in Harrisburg and spent more than three hours on the 16th floor of Strawberry Square. Her spokesman, Chuck Ardo, told ABC 27 News he had no idea what was in the search warrant.
Montgomery County prosecutors accuse Kane of leaking protected material from a 2009 grand jury investigation and lying about it under oath. She is charged with perjury, official oppression, false swearing and obstruction.
Kane also faces an effort by an ethics board to have her law license suspended.
She denies she did anything illegal. She says she’s the victim of an effort to conceal pornographic and racially insensitive emails and the names of former staffers and other officials who sent them.
