Felony charges withdrawn, teacher waives hearing in prostitution case

Michael Pilsitz (Swatara Township Police Department)

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A teacher and former basketball coach at Steelton-Highspire High School is headed to trial for prostitution, while charges he tried to arrange a sexual encounter with a minor have been withdrawn.

Michael Pilsitz, 40, of Steelton, no longer faces two third-degree felony counts of promoting prostitution of a minor and unlawful contact with a minor. A first-degree misdemeanor count of corruption of minors was also withdrawn, according to court records.

Two third-degree misdemeanor counts, patronizing prostitutes and conspiracy to patronize prostitutes, were waived to Dauphin County court on Friday.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Swatara Township police, Pilsitz allegedly paid an 18-year-old woman for sexual acts, and that woman passed along Pilsitz’s contact information to a 17-year-old girl. Pilstiz then had a Facebook Messenger conversation with the 17-year-old.

Police said in the complaint that Pilstiz attempted to solicit sexual contact with the teen in exchange for money, but never met her in person. It is unclear in the court document whether he knew the girl’s age.
