PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Authorities say an off-duty Philadelphia police sergeant was killed when his pickup truck struck a large tree.
Police said the officer was heading south on Henry Avenue in the Roxborough neighborhood when his truck went onto the center median and hit the tree at about 11:43 p.m. Saturday.
Police said the driver was freed from the wreckage and taken to Einstein Medical Center, where he passed away due to his injuries Sunday morning.
The 32-year-old officer’s name wasn’t immediately released, but a police spokeswoman said he was a sergeant assigned to the 39th district.
Police said there is no indication that alcohol played a role in the crash, but speed may have been a factor.
