2nd lawmaker declares bid for top Pennsylvania prosecutor

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – A third-term state representative from the Philadelphia suburbs is declaring his candidacy for Pennsylvania attorney general.

Republican Rep. Todd Stephens of Montgomery County announced his decision Thursday.

Stephens is the second lawmaker to throw his hat into the ring. Sen. John Rafferty, also of Montgomery County, announced in June that he’s running for the office currently held by Democrat Kathleen Kane.

In a four-minute campaign video also released Thursday, Stephens stressed his nearly 10 years’ experience as a county and federal prosecutor.

Kane has said she plans to seek a second term despite criminal charges that she leaked confidential grand jury information and then lied about it under oath. Kane says she is innocent.

Jack Stollsteimer, a Delaware County lawyer and former prosecutor, also is seeking the Democratic nomination.
