GREENCASTLE, Pa. (WHTM) – Drivers should expect to see a new traffic pattern on Interstate 81 this week when work is scheduled to begin on the bridges over Leitersburg Road in Antrim Township, Franklin County.
A median crossover has been constructed to carry the left lane of I-81 North onto the southbound bridge. Construction crews will begin setting barriers Wednesday at 9 p.m. and a new traffic pattern should be in place by early Thursday, according to a PennDOT news release.
Two southbound lanes of I-81 traffic will be shifted to the right, and the right northbound lane will be shifted to one side of the northbound bridge.
PennDOT spokesman Mike Crochunis said this traffic pattern will remain until the end of August. He said construction crews will work around-the-clock and temporary single-lane restrictions are permitted during the overnight hours between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Workers will demolish and rebuild both bridges over Leitersburg Road. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
