Pa. pulls erroneous child abuse report from website

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Pennsylvania’s annual child abuse report for 2014 has been removed from the Department of Human Services website because of errors.

Human Services Secretary Ted Dallas on Friday said the report was temporarily removed and his department will review it to ensure all numbers are accurate.

He said his department will re-post the report as soon as they make sure it is accurate.

Dallas said the errors were most likely related to a transition to new software that is used to collect and analyze data.

As ABC 27 News reported Thursday, regional statistics in the report posted Monday indicated 66 reported cases were never investigated because case workers missed the 60-day deadline. The following day, the report was changed to show that state and regional investigators missed only two cases.

Human Services spokeswoman Kathaleen Gillis said the department noticed the error and corrected it immediately. She said the original information posted Monday was inaccurate and it was corrected with accurate information by Tuesday.
