Couple injured woman during purse theft spree, police say

LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – A Manheim couple was arrested for robbery after police said they injured a 74-year-old woman during their three-store purse stealing spree.

East Hempfield Township police said Amy Jo Greer, 27, and Patrick Alan Clawges, 49, are accused of purse thefts Tuesday and Wednesday at the Giant food store in the 500 block of Centerville Road and another Wednesday at BJ’s Wholesale in the 100 block of Centerville Road.

One woman told police her purse was stolen from her vehicle while she returned her shopping cart, and another said her purse was taken while a man distracted her with small talk.

The 74-year-old woman injured at BJ’s Wholesale was unloading her shopping cart in the parking lot when she saw a woman take her purse from her car. She told police she went after her purse, but the thief got into a vehicle and she was knocked to the pavement as the suspects fled.

She was treated at a hospital and released.

Greer and Clawges were charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and theft by unlawful taking. Both were placed in Lancaster County Prison on $20,000 bail.
