Former Gettysburg College professor gets prison in child predator sting

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A retired Gettysburg College professor will spend two to four years in prison for trying to meet a teenage boy for sex.

Robert Viti, 69, of Harrisburg, was sentenced Thursday in Dauphin County court. He pleaded guilty in April to two counts of unlawful contact with a child.

Viti was arrested last August after authorities said he responded to an online ad to meet a 15-year-old boy for sex. Prosecutors said Viti sent an explicit photo of himself in what was really a sting run by the state attorney general’s office.

Viti retired from Gettysburg College in 2011, but he had returned to teach some classes part-time before his arrest.
