LEMOYNE, Pa. (WHTM) – PennDOT closed 581 east to finish work on the new Lemoyne bridge.
PennDOT says this is the last weekend we’re going to have to deal with full closures on this stretch of road.
It’s the fourth weekend of shut-downs to replace the bridge over 10th street.
Starting early Saturday morning, the eastbound side of 581 will close between route 15 and I-83.
One westbound lane will also be closed.
The entire bridge was replaced in just two weekends using pre-fabricated pieces. Now contractors have to pave those eastbound lanes.
There are some worries the weather won’t allow it. Too much rain or too much heat may stop them from getting the work done.
But the plan is to pave overnight so the air will be cooler and it only has to stay dry for a little while.
Mike Crochunis, from PennDOT, said “As long as we have a two-hour window or so that we can actually apply the material, and then when it’s curing we can cover it up with blankets or do whatever we need to do.”
As with past weekend work on this bridge, PennDOT says they’ll have it back open for traffic before Monday morning.
This work is just part of a broader road project centered around I-83.
