Mechanicsburg police seek tips in ’99 hit-and-run death

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Investigators have renewed their plea for information in a 15-year-old fatal hit-and-run case.

Mechanicsburg police and Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers are looking for the driver who fatally struck 30-year-old Rusty Aurand in the 100 block of West Main Street on the night of October 31, 1999.

Authorities said Aurand was hit by a car that resembled a late 1980’s to early 1990’s version of the Dodge Daytona or a vehicle with a similar body style. The car appeared to be dark, possibly reddish to maroon in color, with retractable headlights.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-4PA-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward.
