Deadline nears for popular City Island business

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – The Carriage House at City Island has given thousands of unique tours of Harrisburg.

Over the years, the company has had disputes with the city about building improvements and upgrades.

They say during that time, there were no permit negotiations.

Mayor Eric Papenfuse says his administration reviewed all the permits on City Island and determined that The Carriage House owes about six years in unpaid rent that totals $7,200.

The mayor says he had discussions with The Carriage House in the past about their unpaid rent, and they have until July 22 to make a payment.

Yvonne Rothstein works at The Carriage House.

She says they don’t have that kind of money and they have set up a GoFundMe account to help raise money, to try and meet the deadline. “We had some horses with medical problems, and that tapped our reserves,” said Rothstein, “To come up with that kind of money during mid season, is really difficult.”
