FAIRVIEW TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM) – Fairview Township Police said the Pennsylvania Game Commission captured a male black bear, after numerous sightings in the area.

The animal was trapped in an area near Old York Road and Marsh Run Road.

The Game Commission sedated and tagged the bear before releasing it in the Clark’s Valley area of Dauphin County.

Conservation Officers said the bear was healthy and weighted 130 lbs.

“Male black bears around this age and size are typical in this area of the state after being pushed away by their mother,” said Kyle Jury, Wildlife Conservation Officer.

If you should encounter a bear on or around your property, please do not approach it and contact police or the Game Commission.

The Game Commission also recommends that homeowners then remove all garbage, bird feeders, or other food sources that may attract the bear.
