For Thrifty Thursday on Good Day PA, HowIPinchAPenny’s Sarah Mock shared her recipe for homemade laundry detergent.

– 1 bar soap
– 2 cups Arm And Hammer Washing Soda
– 2 cups Borax

Optional: fragrance granules
Essential oils (start with 10 drops per recipe)
Directions:
– Grate the soap. The finer the better.Thrifty Thurs detergent 2
– Combine and store in a closed container.
– Use ¼ cup per load.
Cost: Starting at .02 per load!

 

Thrifty Thurs yarn ballsDryer Balls:
-Make balls out of wool yarn.
-Toss 3-4 of them in the dryer with your clothes for less static and reduced dry time.

More laundry tips:
-Hang delicates to dry.
-Don’t overload the washer or dryer.
-High efficiency washers will spin clothes to almost dry. Hang to dry overnight.
-Wash on cold.
-Use ½ of what is called for in commercial detergents.
-Clean your washing machine once a month for maximum efficiency.  (I have instructions on the blog)
