HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A 16-year-old boy had to jump from his mother’s SUV after a thief climbed in and drove off from a Dauphin County hotel, police said.

Harrisburg police said a Connecticut woman and her two sons were packing their 2006 Mercury Mountaineer outside the Crowne Plaza Harrisburg-Hershey, in the first block of S. 2nd. Street, when the thief made his move Sunday morning.

The alleged thief, identified as 27-year-old Curtis L. Derr of Mifflinburg, led city officers on a pursuit to Interstate 81. State troopers then took over the chase.

Derr was arrested after he crashed on Interstate 78 near the Midway exit.

He is charged with robbery of a motor vehicle, unlawful restraint, and reckless endangerment.

Bail at Dauphin County Prison was set at $150,000.
