Armed robber gets cash, loses gun at ice cream shop

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – An armed robber got away with money but not his gun when he robbed a Swatara Township ice cream shop Thursday night.

Swatara Township police said the unknown man entered the 3B Ice Cream at 4701 Derry Street and demanded cash just before 11 p.m.

As he was collecting the money, he placed the gun on a counter top. One of the 3B employees grabbed it, police said, and the robber fled with the loot.

The employee chased him but was unable to catch him.

Investigators are looking into whether the robber is the same guy who held up the Speedway gas station at 6821 Paxton Street about 40 minutes earlier.

No one was injured in either incident.

Employees at the ice cream shop said the thief was 16-20 years old, and about 6’0” tall with a thin build. He was said to be wearing black jeans, a black long sleeve shirt, black gloves, and a black mask.

The gas station worker’s description put the bandit at 5’9” tall with a thin build. He was said to be wearing black pants, a gray hooded sweatshirt, black gloves, and a black mask.

Anyone who knows anything about either crime is asked to call Swatara Township police at 717-564-2550.
