STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) – A man living on the streets in central Pennsylvania has returned a lost purse containing nearly $400 to its owner – a single mother, who is on welfare and battling cancer.
The man, originally from Boston, tells WJAC-TV (http://bit.ly/1LnrRQP ) on Thursday that he was sitting on a bench in State College waiting to go to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting when he saw the handbag.
When the man saw a public assistance debit card in the purse, he realized its owner needed the money so he turned over the purse to a homeless shelter. The shelter tracked down the woman.
The homeless man and the purse’s owner told the TV station they didn’t want to go on camera Thursday. But the station says their meeting included thanks, hugs and smiles.
