Woman accused of stealing $75,000 from Lancaster church

East Hempfield Township Police have arrested a woman for allegedly stealing money from the church she worked at.

Tami Wilmot of Mount Joy is charged with theft by deception.

Police say Wilmot worked as the executive assistant for the Christ the King Church on Marietta Avenue from December 2008 until May 2014.

During her employment, police say Wilmot used her position to write checks to herself from the church’s account. She also is accused of using the church’s credit card to pay her bills, totaling $75,000 over the 5 1/2 years.

Wilmot was arraigned Thursday and released on $20,000 unsecured bail.
