The Dauphin County Coroner’s office completed the autopsy of the baby girl and determined she died from complications of child maltreatment syndrome including malnutrition, starvation and dehydration.
At the time of her death, the coroner’s office said Lakia Hardy weighed less than five pounds. Her manner of death was ruled a homicide.
On Thursday, the district attorney announced criminal homicide charges and aggravated assault charges against Dionne Bishop and Leviticus Hardy.
According to court documents Lakia had a twin sister, Lamia, who was taken into custody by Dauphin County Children and Youth. Lamia reportedly had similar signs of malnutrition and dehydration.
She was taken to Hershey Medical Center for treatment and hospitalized for five days, during that time she gained almost a pound.
