Significant travel problems are forcing a “Code Red” status for Cumberland Goodwill EMS this weekend.
The group says a “Code Red” status is implemented when the EMS system is under extreme strain and patients calling 911 for assistance would experience significant wait times for an ambulance response.
The bridge replacement project over 581 limits access to Harrisburg Hospital and Hershey Medical Center and the 25-mile detour for this construction project uses routes that Cumberland Goodwill uses to get to West Shore or Holy Spirit Hospitals.
Officials say the “Code Red” status is in effect from 7 p.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Monday.
During that time if patients can not be transported by ground in 45 minutes, aeromedical evacuation may be used.
