HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Harrisburg police officers were recognized Tuesday for going above and beyond the call of duty.
The Police Awards Ceremony took place at the City Government Center.
Police Chief Thomas Carter and Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse handed out about 150 awards for heroism, valor, merit and Officer of the Year.
A couple of citizens were honored, too.
“It’s important to recognize the good works that the officers are doing for the citizens of this great city, also with the things that are going on around them, let citizens know that they do have officers out there that care for them and out there doing what they should be out there doing,” Carter said.
“We have some of the finest officers anywhere in the commonwealth,” Papenfuse said. “They believe in community policing strategy, they care deeply about the community that they are policing, and things are very positive here in the city.”
