(MEDIA GENERAL) – Chalk up another win for “The Simpsons.”
The long-running animated sitcom has a knack for predicting the future, and Wednesday’s arrests that unearthed a major corruption scandal at FIFA is the latest victory.
In an episode titled “You Don’t Have to Live Like a Referee,” Homer Simpson, with newfound integrity, is approached by a FIFA official searching for an honorable man to officiate World Cup games to offset the institutionalized corruption throughout the organization.
The episode originally aired in March 2014, three months before the men’s World Cup kicked off in June in Brazil. In that episode, “The Simpsons” also correctly predicted the tournament winner: Germany.
“The Simpsons,” which just wrapped its 26th season, has had a knack for predicting future events. If you care to burn a few minutes, Buzzfeed produced a list filled with gifs and images marking the show’s uncanny ability – including predicting the “smartwatch” in 1995 and that the Rolling Stones still would be touring long into the 21st century.
