Man rescued from burning home during overnight fire

Fire officials said an unconscious man was rescued by police after a kitchen fire early Friday morning.

The fire happened around 3 a.m. along the 800 blong of Alvin Street in Penn Township near Hanover. Two Penn Township officers, Steve Gebhart and Mike Gessner, are credited with saving the man from the burning home.

Officials said the home did not have working smoke detectors. A cat and dog died. The man was taken to Hanover Hospital, then transferred to the Lehigh Valley Burn Center.
