CAMP HILL, Pa. (WHTM) – An employee of a tree trimming company was killed when a bucket boom on a truck malfunctioned, according to the Cumberland County coroner.
The employee has been identifed as 53-year-old Michael Shaud of Middletown.
Coroner Charley Hall said Shaud was trimming trees for Shull’s Tree Trimming and was cleaning debris on the ground along September Drive while another employee was in the bucket trimming trees Thursday morning.
For an unknown reason, the bucket boom malfunctioned and collapsed, striking Shaud. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other employee was thrown from the bucket and was flown to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
“I heard a snap, then I saw the guy in the bucket crash into the truck, then I saw two guys laying down there,” Clifford Seidle, a witness, said. “One guy didn’t look like he was moving at all.”
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning.
The accident is under investigation by the Cumberland County Coroner’s Office, Camp Hill Police Department, and OSHA.
September Drive is off Trindle Road and behind the Camp Hill Shopping Center.
