Harrisburg festivals will go on as scheduled with modifications

Summer festivals in Harrisburg are still on as scheduled, but there will be several changes because of funding issues.

Mayor Eric Papenfuse said this year’s Fourth of July event will be one day only, because the city got a sponsor late in the game.  Starting at 5 p.m., a portion of Front Street will be closed on the holiday, which falls on a Saturday this year.  There will be fireworks and vendors.

The annual Kipona event will last for three days, but the city is still looking for a sponsor. Papenfuse said previous mayors spent around $40,000 on festivals; an expense he said is too high for a recovering city.
