LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – A 6-year-old girl rescued a small kitten from a Lancaster Township storm drain when the job proved to be too big for firefighters.

Janeysha Cruz and her friends saw the trapped kitten at the Lancaster Arms Apartments Tuesday evening, but after firefighters removed the drain cover they realized no adults would be able to reach the kitten that was nearly three feet down in the small hole.

Janeysha, with her mother’s permission, volunteered to go in. The Lancaster Township Fire Department lowered her into the hole and she was able to coax the kitten into her arms.

The kitten was taken to the SPCA for evaluation and care until she is adopted.

The fire department reported the incident on its Facebook page.
