LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – The Lancaster County SPCA is closing its dog kennel for adoptions until Monday because of the sudden and unexplained death of one of the dogs.

The closure is a precautionary measure to ensure the health of all dogs at the shelter as well as the community as a whole, according to a statement posted Friday on the organization’s Facebook page.

The Lancaster County SPCA believes the dog’s death is an isolated incident, but decided to close the dog kennel until it has lab results, according to the statement.

All dogs will be reevaluated by a veterinarian before the shelter reopens Tuesday.

The shelter will remain open to the public and the cat room is still open for adoptions.
