MIDDLETOWN, Pa. (WHTM) – Three Mile Island has returned to full power.
Exelon spokesman Ralph DeSantis said the nuclear power station was returned to service Monday after electrical repairs were completed on a control rod drive mechanism.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission continues to investigate two incidents at the plant last week.
A control rod dropped inside the reactor on Sunday and as TMI was shutting down for repairs Wednesday, a valve opened and allowed steam to be released into the atmosphere.
The steam release could be heard by nearby residents.
The steam had trace amounts of radiation, but Exelon and NRC representatives described the incidents as minor and said there was no danger to the public.
Electric customers were not affected by the temporary outage.
