Police hear shots fired, find toddler shot in Lancaster

Lancaster Police say a 2-year-old boy was shot in the foot while riding in a car.

Police say they were patrolling a Lancaster neighborhood around 1:10 p.m. Wednesday when they heard shots fired.

Officers responded to the area of Strawberry and Locust Streets and found a toddler had been shot in the foot.

Police say a male shooter fired multiple gunshots at a sedan. One of the bullets went through the sedan, striking the toddler in the foot.

The toddler was taken to the hospital, police do not believe his injury is life-threatening.

“Unfortunately, when you people that are using guns to solve disputes, this is the end result,” Lt. Todd Umstead said.

According to police, this was not a random act and the gunman was likely intending to shoot another person in the sedan.

Police are still searching for the gunman who fled on foot.

Investigators believe this incident may be related to a fight that happened earlier in the day. They are continuing to investigate and search for the shooter.
