The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) has confirmed a single smallmouth bass, caught in the Susquehanna River, has cancer.
The PFBC says an angler notified them late last year of a smallmouth bass caught in Duncannon, with a tumor.
Tuesday, the PFBC announced two independent laboratory tests confirmed the tumor is malignant, or cancerous.
According to the PFBC, cancerous growths and tumors on fish are extremely rare in Pennsylvania. This is reportedly the only documented case of this type of tumor in the state.
