Police in Lancaster warn of scam

Police in Lancaster want to warn residents after two similar scam incidents were reported on Tuesday.

According to police, in both incidents an unknown subject calls the victim on their cell phone and tells them a family member was in a car accident and the caller assaulted the family member.

The caller then reportedly tells the victim they will only take their family member to the hospital if the victim sends money via a wire transfer to Florida.

The suspect then repeatedly calls the victim.

Police say at this time there is not a known relationship between the two incidents and the amount of money demanded varies.

Officials say this scam has surfaced before so police are reminding the public to never send money to people you haven’t met in person and to never send money for an emergency situation if you have not verified it is a real emergency.
