Harrisburg Police officer honored for valor

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM)– A Harrisburg Police officer was honored for his reaction during a violent encounter with 3 burglary suspects.

Officer Angel Diaz was awarded the “The Mayor’s Award for Valor” on Friday.

Early Wednesday morning police said Shawn McCoy shot at Diaz following a robbery. One of the bullets went through his car door and landed right next to him. Diaz chose not to return fire.

“Selfless actions have demonstrated the highest level of public safety performance, which set a standard for all citizens, ” said Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse.

Officer Diaz has been with the department for just over a year. He served in Afghanistan, attended Bishop McDevitt High School and was raised in Harrisburg.
