Giant recalls hummus for Listeria concerns

Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets are removing select hummus products due to a potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The products include:

  • Sabra Classic Hummus, 10 oz., UPC 4082201114; with a best before date of 2015 May 11 or 2015 May 15
  • Sabra Classic Hummus Six Pack, 17 oz., UPC 4082201749; with a best before date of 2015 May 11

While Giant and Martin’s have not received any reported illnesses, food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis which is a potentially fatal disease. Listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Listeriosis can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy.

If you have purchased the products listed, Giant is advising customers to throw away unused portions and bring the purchase receipt to Giant or Martin’s for a full refund.

For more information about the recall, customers can contact Sabra consumer relations at 888-957-2272 or Giant and Martin’s Customer Service at 1-888-814-4268 for more information. Customers can also visit the GIANT or MARTIN’S websites.
