Harrisburg City Council votes to reduce cost of parking downtown

On Wednesday evening, Harrisburg City Council approved a plan to reduce the cost of parking downtown.

In a 5 to 2 vote, council members decided to drop prices from $3 to $2 during happy hour (5 to 7 p.m.) on weeknights, beginning April 1. Drivers will get four hours of free parking on Saturdays, starting April 4.

To take advantage of these prices, you must have the free “Pango” app.

Council member Sandra Reid does not support the changes. “This is taxpayer dollars that we’re using to subsidize a business. It is totally wrong,” she said.

City officials are still discussing a proposed 5-minute grace period once the meter expires.
