YORK, Pa. (WHTM) – A York man was killed after he crashed on the Interstate 83 business loop and plummeted about 40 feet from an overpass in York Township.
Thomas Courtenay, 56, was northbound on the loop when the 1999 Lexus ES300 he was driving left the highway and struck a guardrail, then traveled onto the overpass wall before launching into the air and crashing into a rocky embankment along Powder Mill Road at around 10:45 a.m., according to York Area Regional police.
Courtenay was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
York Area Regional Police Sgt. Jeffry Dunbar said speed is “definitely a factor” in the crash.
Powder Mill Road and the right northbound lane of the I-83 business loop were closed for about three hours while police investigated and the vehicle was removed.
