Harrisburg Police: Gunman arrested after 3-hour standoff

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Police say they’ve arrested an armed suspect who barricaded himself inside a Harrisburg home Monday evening, causing a 3-hour standoff.

It happened in the Allison Hill section of Harrisburg.

Police told abc27 detectives were looking for the suspect at a home near 17th and Market Streets, when they learned the man barricaded himself upstairs. The man had weapons, investigators said.

The Crisis Response Team was called in and made contact with the suspect using the public address system, police explained.

After a standoff lasting about 3 hours, police wearing tactical gear went into the home and arrested the suspect at about 8 p.m. Monday.

“The team did everything it needed to do to ensure everyone’s safety,” said Cpt. Colin Cleary of the Harrisburg Police Department. “[The team] moved slowly and gave him every opportunity to surrender, and he took advantage of the opportunity.”

No injuries were reported.

The suspect’s name has not been released. Police did not say what charges will be filed.
