HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A Harrisburg man was charged with abuse of a corpse after police said he failed to report a woman’s death for 16 days.
Carlo Cobb, 50, admitted to officers that he did not call authorities because he feared he would be charged with homicide, police said in a news release Wednesday.
Cobb was living with 69-year-old Barbara Grant at the Linden Terrace apartments at 1201 North Front Street. He told investigators that Grant fell on Jan. 29 and died the next day.
He also admitted that he had to walk over the body each time he needed to use the bathroom, police said.
Officers found Grant’s body during a welfare check on Feb. 15 after she had not been seen for at least a week.
Cobb was in the apartment when they arrived and admitted that Grant was inside and deceased.
Police said the abuse of a corpse charge stems from the fact that Cobb “intentionally, knowingly or recklessly treated a corpse in a way that he knew would outrage ordinary family sensibilities.”
An autopsy indicated Grant died of natural causes. Coroner Graham Hetrick said she died from complications associated with pulmonary disease.
